Knee Pain is common in adults and is usually caused by regular wear and tear from daily activities like walking, bending, standing, and lifting. Athletes who run or play sports requiring rapid twisting or jumping are also more likely to experience knee pain and problems. However, regardless of whether it is caused by aging or an injury, knee discomfort can be bothersome and even incapacitating in some circumstances.

What Are Some Common Knee Pain?

The aging process and ongoing wear and strain on the knee joint (such as arthritis) are the causes of many knee issues. An injury or an abrupt action that strains the knee can cause additional knee issues. The following are typical knee issues:

  • Sprained or strained knee ligaments and/or muscles. AA blow to the knee or an abrupt twist of the knee is typically the cause of a sprained or strained knee ligament or muscle. Pain, swelling, and trouble walking are common symptoms.

  • Torn cartilage. The menisci, which are connective tissue pads that provide stability and serve as shock absorbers, can be torn by knee trauma. Sprains frequently result in cartilage tears. Wearing a brace during an activity may be part of the treatment to prevent future damage to the knee. To fix the tear, surgery might be required.

  • Tendonitis. Overuse of a tendon during specific sports, including running, leaping, or cycling, can lead to tendon inflammation. Jumper's knee is the term for patellar tendon tendinitis. This frequently happens in sports like basketball, when the tendon is strained by the force of landing after a jump.

  • Arthritis. The cartilage in the joint eventually deteriorates due to the degenerative process of osteoarthritis. Middle-aged and elderly persons are frequently impacted. Excessive joint stress, such as from repeated injuries or being overweight, can result in osteoarthritis. Knee inflammation and cartilage degradation are two other ways that rheumatoid arthritis can impact the knees. Compared to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis frequently strikes people earlier in life.

When To See A Doctor For Knee Pain:

If your knee discomfort is severe, comes after an injury, or makes it difficult to walk or bear weight, you should consult a doctor. If the knee is heated, swollen, red, misshapen, or has a fever, medical assistance is required. A doctor should be sought if the discomfort persists for more than one to two weeks even after rest. If the knee locks, feels unsteady, or gets in the way of your everyday activities or sleep, you should also get help.
